Hot Fudge Sauce

Is it really a summer to remember if it doesn't include a drizzle of this fudgy topping?! Ice Cream Season is upon us, ie time to whip up this super simple and quick chocolate sauce to pour over a scoop of your favourite frozen treat. Sticky, sweet, and sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Chocolate

Feel free to trade the semi-sweet chocolate for a darker, bittersweet one depending on your taste.

Unsalted butter

Heavy whipping cream, 35%

Honey

Dark brown sugar

Cocoa powder

Salt

Semi-sweet chocolate

Pure vanilla extract

Hot Fudge Sauce

Hot fudge sauce is Ice Cream Season’s quintessential topping. This homemade chocolate sauce is sticky and sweet, and comes together so quickly and effortlessly. This recipe makes 2 cups of sauce, and keeps well in the fridge for up to 1 month.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2/3 cup heavy whipping cream, 35%
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup (50g) packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (20g) cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 6 oz (170g) semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Put the butter, cream, honey, sugar, cocoa powder and salt in the small saucepan.
  2. Bring the ingredients to a simmer over medium heat.  Stir the ingredients with a spatula until incorporated.
  3. Turn the heat down to low and let simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the chopped chocolate until it is melted and incorporated.
  5. Stir in the vanilla.
  6. Let the hot fudge sauce cool for 15 to 20 minutes.  It will thicken.
  7. Pour the hot fudge sauce over a scoop of ice cream and enjoy!
  8. Transfer the sauce to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 1 month.

I’ve only tasted 2 of two of your recipes so far but this one is by far my favourite! Shortbread always reminds me of my time in Scotland!
