Ice Cream Tart with Chocolate and Caramel Toppings

This recipe is inspired by the Dairy Queen Treatzza, an ice cream pizza of sorts with an Oreo cookie crust, vanilla ice cream, and garnished with chocolate and caramel toppings. This sweet and tasty ice cream treat can be replicated at home easily! It’s a great dessert to share on a hot summer night. Have fun with it, and personalize each slice. I opted for chopped up chocolate and caramel candy bars, my homemade hot fudge sauce, and La Lichée’s delicious caramel sauce.

Tips

Ice Cream Flavour

What’s really fun about this super simple recipe is that you can personalize it!  I chose vanilla ice cream, but feel free to pick another (or multiple!) flavour.

Chocolate Candy Bars

On a recent trip to IKEA a friend recommended I pick up a bag of mini Daim candy bars.  I had never tasted these before.  They are milk chocolate and caramel, and they remind me of Skor.  Feel free to switch out Daim for Skor, or chopped up Oreos, or mini M&Ms… really, the options are endless!  Follow your taste buds.

Hot fudge sauce

Caramel sauce

Mini Daim milk chocolate with caramel candy bars

Ingredients

  • 1 ¼ cups (165g) Oreo baking crumbs
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 pint (450-500ml) of vanilla ice cream
  • ¼ cup hot fudge sauce
  • ¼ cup caramel sauce
  • ½ cup (10 mini candy bars) Daim, coarsely chopped

Instructions

  1. Stir the Oreo baking crumbs with the melted butter.
  2. Pour the mixture into a 9 inch round tart pan with a removable bottom.
  3. Use the bottom of a ¼ measuring cup to press the crust into the bottom of the pan evenly.
  4. Place the tart pan in the freezer for 10 minutes.
  5. Take the pint of vanilla ice cream out of the freezer a few minutes before the tart pan.  This way the ice cream will soften a bit, making it easier to spread.
  6. Remove the tart pan from the freezer.
  7. Scoop the ice cream onto the crust.
  8. Use a small offset spatula to spread the ice cream evenly over the crust.
  9. Return the tart pan to the freezer for another 10 minutes.
  10. Remove the tart pan from the freezer.
  11. Sprinkle the coarsely chopped Daim candy bars onto the ice cream.
  12. Return the tart pan to the freezer for another 10 minutes.
  13. Heat up the hot fudge sauce and caramel sauce until you reach a pourable consistency.
  14. Remove the tart pan from the freezer.
  15. Pour the hot fudge sauce and the caramel sauce over the ice cream tart.
  16. Return the tart pan to the freezer until you are ready to serve it.

I’ve only tasted 2 of two of your recipes so far but this one is by far my favourite! Shortbread always reminds me of my time in Scotland!
